HOME BASICS

The Árvore – we don’t know how it’s pronounced either, we just know we love it…

Design lineage

In November of 2023 a friend’s home burned down. She needed a quick rebuild on an existing foundation and asked if Timberbuilt could take on the project. Thrilled to help, we started with one of our existing designs – The Micro Kirsch – and scaled up the dimensions. A handful of other modifications and we had a fit for our friend’s site: The Mini Kirsch.

One year later, the home was nearing completion and we stopped by for a visit. As we walked through the space two questions dominated our thoughts: unencumbered by an existing foundation, what would we do differently? Also, how could we take this home and make it live comfortably on a single floor?

Enter the Árvore: a single story timber frame with elbow room to spare. Design elements from the Kirsch shape the outline and main living space, but this house rests confidently on its own laurels. Dollars to square feet, the Árvore is one of the best values that Timberbuilt offers. With careful consideration the Árvore has been designed for the long haul.

THE TIMBER FRAME

Enter the Árvore under a weather protecting gable front porch, where two girts and a timber ridge break clean past the roof line.

Step inside and look up — timber ceiling joists run the length of the ceiling at two and a half foot intervals, drawing you further into the home. Opposite the entry is a large office. An attached bathroom with private entrance allows the office to double as a second bedroom when needed (to maximize the space we sketched a Murphy bed into our floor plan).

The main living space, located in the west wing, brings cooking, eating and gathering into one room. A dramatic pair of scissor trusses add impressive visual interest and modern character. Between the trusses resides a dining room dormer wide enough to accommodate a full-sized table.

To the room’s left is the kitchen — complete with walk-in pantry and an island with seating for three. The kitchen and great room converge and conversation flows freely through this open floor plan design. At the far end of the primary living space a set of double doors open onto the patio.

Stroll to the east wing and look to the right: a large laundry room with plenty of storage. Inspired by an ultramarathoner’s base camp in Colorado, floor to ceiling cabinets line the walls. A pull-down ladder allows access to extra ceiling storage and utilities.

To the left find the primary bedroom, where floor to ceiling windows bring out the best of every morning. A walk-in closet is accessed via the primary bathroom. The bathroom — like the dining room nook —resides in its own dormer.

EXTERIOR ELEMENTS

A timber bent carries the back porch roof, grounded by two posts.

The gable front porch extends well-past the walkway on either side, to keep the entrance dry in every season. Three timber beams jut horizontally past the columns, a distinct design reminiscent of the front porch on our Yount series of homes.
